Las investigaciones actuales sobre temas relacionados con las malas hierbas cubren un espectro muy amplio de temas, desde la biología y ecología de estas plantas a las técnicas de aplicación de herbicidas. Este artículo se centra en tres aspectos que, previsiblemente, van a ocupar un lugar destacado en la investigación futura: las resistencias a herbicidas, los sistemas de gestión integrada y la agricultura digital. En cada uno de ellos se definen los principales retos planteados en la actualidad.
Three main topics are considered. Regarding herbicide resistance, the current trends are focused on the development of products with new modes of action, the development simple diagnostic methods for early detection of resistance and the development of management practices to extend the life of the products currently available. Regarding Integrated Weed Management (IWM), research lines are focused on the development of more reliable non-chemical methods and on the design and development of IWM systems well adapted to local conditions. Regarding digital agriculture, researchers will be trying to provide more data, understanding and insights from weed monitoring, to find user-friendly algorithms and inexpensive sensors for robust weed detection and to evaluate control efficacy following IWM systems, providing spatio-temporal dynamics of control success.
